What is Nerd Leagues?
Nerd Leagues is a free, all-in-one companion app for Magic: The Gathering playgroups. It includes ELO tracking, league management, a full deck builder with folders and tags, a real-time life tracker, and rich player profiles with lifetime stats. Think of it as the operating system for your playgroup.

Is Nerd Leagues free?
Yes, completely free — no subscriptions, no premium tiers, no ads. Every single feature is available to every user at no cost. We built this because we wanted it for our own playgroup, and we think every playgroup should have access to the same tools.

How does ELO work for Magic: The Gathering?
ELO is a rating system originally designed for chess that we've adapted for MTG. Every player and deck starts at 1000. When you win, your rating goes up; when you lose, it goes down. The amount depends on the relative ratings of all players in the game and the number of participants. We track both all-time ELO and yearly ELO that resets each season, so you get both long-term bragging rights and fresh competition each year.

What MTG formats does Nerd Leagues support?
All of them. Commander/EDH, cEDH, Modern, Standard, Pioneer, Legacy, Vintage, Draft, Sealed, Pauper, and more. Each league can track any format independently, so you can have one league for your Commander nights and another for your Modern events.

How does the life tracker work?
The host creates a game session, and every player joins from their own phone or device. Each player controls their own life total, and all changes sync in real-time across every connected device. It tracks commander damage, poison counters, and custom counters. When the game ends, the result is automatically recorded and ELO ratings update — no extra steps needed.

Can I import decks from Moxfield?
Yes! You can paste a Moxfield-format decklist directly into the deck builder. It automatically parses card names, quantities, set codes, and even #hashtag-style tags. You can also export your decks in the same format to share or back up.

How do I create a league?
It takes about 30 seconds. Sign in, go to the Leagues page, click "Create a League," give it a name and description, and share the invite code with your playgroup. You become the commissioner with full control over league settings and member management.

Is there a limit on players per league?
No limits at all. Whether your playgroup has 4 people or your local game store community has 200+, Nerd Leagues scales to fit. Each player gets their own profile, ELO rating, and stats within the league.

Are my decks private?
Yes, your decklists are private by default. Only you can see the cards in your decks through the deck builder. Other players can see your deck names and stats on your profile, but not the actual card list.

Does the life tracker support commander damage?
Yes. The life tracker includes full commander damage tracking for each opponent, poison counters, energy counters, experience counters, and any other custom counters your game needs. All tracked per-player and synced in real-time.

Can I track stats for individual decks?
Absolutely. Every deck has its own ELO rating, win/loss record, and plus/minus stat. You can see which of your decks perform best, compare them across leagues, and track their performance over time with historical graphs. It's the best way to figure out if your new brew is actually good or if you're just running hot.
