Magic: The Gathering - Ulamog the Defiler

Ulamog the Defiler

With the crazy overpowered new MTG set release Modern Horizons 3, you might be asking, is this new Ulamog, the Defiler as good as it seems? In short, it's a better version of the previous 2 Ulamogs and here's why:

Ulamog, the Defiler

Newlamog, The Defiler

The 3rd iteration in a line of Eldrazi creatures, this latest version of Ulamog might be the best yet. Though it loses the indestructibility the first two versions possessed, The Defiler makes up for this with his "Ward-Sacrifice 2 Permanents" ability. Essentially, it trades invulnerability to destruction board wipes for protection from targeted exile spells like Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile. Where Newlamog really shines is as an improved version of the primary hated abilities of the other 2. It upgrades The Ceaseless Hunger's ability exiling 20 cards per attack into exiling 50 on the cast, which guarantees it gets through and also increases The Defiler's power. It upgrades Annihilator 4 into Annihilator 6 or greater. Who needs targeted removal when 1 attack with Annihilator 6 or higher can take out an opponents entire board. Targeted removal, meet utter extinction. Buff up The Defiler with additional counters any way you can to increase the fun. Add old Eldrazi friends Emrakul and Kozilek into whatever EDH deck you have Newlamog in (it's not great as a Commander) and your real friends will never forgive you.
