The Plane of Innistrad

Avacyn Restored is set on Innistrad, a gothic horror plane in Magic: The Gathering. Following the shattering of the Helvault, the archangel Avacyn has returned to her role as protector of humanity. The plane features human settlements, ancient cathedrals, and dark forests, now illuminated by a renewed angelic presence as protective wards regain their power and hope begins to spread across the land.

The Conflict on Innistrad

In the story of Avacyn Restored, Avacyn emerges from the Helvault alongside the demon Griselbrand and other demons. She rallies her angelic flights and leads a counteroffensive against the forces of darkness that had overrun the plane during her absence. Humanity, bolstered by the angels, pushes back against vampires, werewolves, zombies, and demons in a campaign to restore balance and cleanse Innistrad of infernal threats.

The Mechanical and Flavor Identity of Avacyn Restored

Avacyn Restored represents hope and restoration in Magic: The Gathering. It introduces the Miracle mechanic, allowing cards to be cast for a reduced cost when drawn as the first card of the turn. The set features the Soulbond mechanic, which pairs creatures to share abilities, and returns Undying for persistent monsters.
