The Plane of Duskmourn
Duskmourn: House of Horror is a Magic: The Gathering set that plunges into Duskmourn, a plane entirely consumed by a single sentient House ruled by the demon Valgavoth. Once an advanced world with technology and summoning magic, its inhabitants bound Valgavoth in an ordinary dwelling. During the Ascension, he expanded the structure, absorbing the entire plane until the House became the world itself. This living entity shifts its impossible architecture of rooms and corridors, feeding on the fear of trapped survivors in an endless cycle of terror.
The Rescue Amidst Endless Horrors
In the central story of Duskmourn: House of Horror, planeswalkers including Kaito Shizuki, the Wanderer, Tyvar Kell, Zimone Wola, and Niko Aris enter the House through a mysterious door to rescue Nashi. The House lures outsiders via Omenpaths, splitting victims and amplifying their fears before deploying its hunters. Survivors navigate the shifting zones of the House while Valgavoth sustains himself on their dread from the depths of the Below.
Mechanical and Flavor Identity
Duskmourn: House of Horror captures modern horror tropes in Magic: The Gathering through its top-down design inspired by horror media from the 1980s onward, with manifestations of fear, glitch ghosts, and quickened toys. The set’s mechanical identity centers on Room enchantments—split permanents with two doors that players unlock sequentially—alongside an enchantment-focused theme that reinforces the pervasive, shifting influence of the malevolent House.
