The Plane of Innistrad

Eldritch Moon is set on Innistrad, a gothic horror plane in Magic: The Gathering. Following the death of the archangel Avacyn, the plane’s protective wards have failed. The Eldrazi titan Emrakul arrives on Innistrad, summoned by the planeswalker Nahiri, and begins corrupting the land and its inhabitants, twisting plants, animals, and people into grotesque Eldrazi Horrors marked by tentacles, extra eyes, and bizarre lattice patterns.

In the story of Eldritch Moon, Nahiri’s revenge against Sorin Markov reaches its climax as Emrakul’s influence spreads madness and mutation across the plane. The Gatewatch assembles on Innistrad to combat the titan, with Jace Beleren bringing allies including Liliana Vess and her zombie hordes, which prove immune to Emrakul’s corruption. As the invasion intensifies, the planeswalkers and remaining forces of Innistrad make a desperate stand against the cosmic horror threatening the plane.

The Mechanical and Flavor Identity of Eldritch Moon

Eldritch Moon emphasizes cosmic horror and biological corruption in Magic: The Gathering. It introduces the Meld mechanic, allowing two specific cards to combine into a single oversized creature, and the Emerge mechanic, which lets players sacrifice creatures to cast powerful Eldrazi at a reduced cost.
