The shining city of Ghirapur serves as the center of innovation, with the Consulate governing aether distribution and regulating invention across the plane.

The Conflict on Kaladesh

In the story of Kaladesh, the Gatewatch arrives on the plane for the Inventors’ Fair. Chandra Nalaar returns to her home plane seeking her mother Pia Nalaar, whom she believed dead. Tensions rise between the Consulate and the Renegades, a group of inventors opposing strict aether controls. The planeswalker Tezzeret, serving as a high-ranking consul, manipulates events behind the scenes for his own purposes.

The Mechanical and Flavor Identity of Kaladesh

Kaladesh celebrates invention and creativity in Magic: The Gathering. It introduces the Energy mechanic, a new resource type used to power abilities and spells. Other features include Fabricate, which searches for artifact cards or creates Servo tokens, and Vehicles, artifact creatures that become animated when crewed.
