Crash-Landing and Rebellion Against Mercadian Rule in Mercadian Masques
In the central conflict of Mercadian Masques, the Weatherlight crew crash-lands on the plane after escaping Rath. The ship is stolen by the Cho-Arrim, who take Orim captive. The remaining crew members are arrested by soldiers from Mercadia City. Orim learns that the spiritual Cho-Arrim suffer under the greedy Mercadians. Their leader Cho-Manno sees the Weatherlight's arrival as a sign foretelling the return of the sky god Ramos and the end of Mercadian oppression.
Rebels, Mercenaries, and Spellshapers in Magic: The Gathering Mercadian Masques
Mechanically and flavorfully, Mercadian Masques in Magic: The Gathering introduces Rebels and Mercenaries with tutor abilities to recruit additional members of their tribe from the library. It also features Spellshapers, creatures that discard a card to produce spell-like effects. These mechanics evoke themes of building a rebellion, political recruitment, and versatile deception amid the set's atmosphere of intrigue and class conflict.
