Welcome to Nerd Leagues

Nerd Leagues is a companion app for Magic: The Gathering playgroups. You record the games you already play, and it keeps the scoreboard — ELO ratings for every player and every deck, league standings, seasons, and a game history you can go back and argue about.

This section explains how each piece works. Here's the shape of it.

Recording a game is the one action everything hangs off

You log who played, which decks they brought, and who won. Nerd Leagues then updates every scoreboard that game belongs to at once: your all-time ELO, the current year's ELO, your rating inside each league the game counted for, and any season that was running on that date. Ratings apply immediately — there's no confirmation step and no waiting period.

Two ways in. Fill out the Already Played form after the fact, or open a live Life Tracker lobby, share the code with your pod, and let the result record itself when the game ends.

Leagues are where it gets competitive

A league is a persistent group — your playgroup, your LGS pod, your cEDH crew — with its own leaderboard, its own ratings, and its own history, all separate from your all-time numbers. Creating one takes about a minute, invite codes get your friends in, and recording a game to a league is the same form with one extra dropdown. If you want a defined competitive window instead of an endless ladder, a commissioner can run seasons on top.

ELO is the number under all of it

ELO is the chess rating system, adapted for multiplayer Magic. Everyone starts at 1000. Beat a stronger opponent and you gain more; lose to a weaker one and you drop more. Pods shrink the swing, because a four-player win says less than a duel does. Decks are rated separately from the players piloting them, which is how you tell a good deck from a good week.
